The annual Kentucky-Indiana All Star game series took place Friday in Louisville and Saturday in Indianapolis. The Kentucky girls nearly swept the 2 games but did manage to earn a split by winning in the Derby City and losing in Indianapolis. Here's a quick breakdown of how the weekend went for Kentucky's ladies.
3 Point Shooting was the difference on Friday. The Kentucky team made 12 three pointers on their way to winning the Friday night game 79-74. They won the second half of the game 47-34 after trailing by 8 at halftime.
Miss Basketball led the way. Savannah Wheeler of Boyd County led the Kentucky team with 19 points and made 4 threes in the game. Headed to Marshall, Wheeler will be hard to keep off the court for the Herd next season.
Maaliya Owens showed her full skill set. The Scott County graduate scored 18 points and shot 5-11 from three for the game in Friday's win. Owens is headed to Tennessee Tech and should make an impact right away.
Kentucky controlled the boards. Male's Cameron Browning had 9 points and 10 rebounds on Friday. On Saturday, Kentucky set a record for most rebounds in a game in the series but poor shooting kept them from getting the win.
The Girls side is much more competitive than the boys' side. To put it bluntly, it was not a good weekend for Kentucky boy's basketball. A 33 point loss on Friday was followed by an embarrassing 120-74 loss on Saturday. Meanwhile, the ladies have at least split with the Hoosiers the last 3 years. We could be near the end of the Kentucky/Indiana series but it won't be for lack of wins on the ladies side of things.
