These opinions are formed off of what I see over the summer and which players I have seen over the summer.
Incoming Senior of the Summer: Anna Ostlie 5’8 2020 G Chaparral/AZ Elite
Ostlie had a terrific summer which saw her rack up some big time offers and quickly rise up our rankings. She couldn’t have asked for a better summer and many think that she will likely commit very soon, before her senior season at Chaparral. Very excited to see where Ostlie ends up and how she does this season!
Runner-Up: Ali Zelaya 6’4 2020 F Millennium/AZ Elite
Zelaya played great this season, unfortunately injuries ended her season early. If she stayed healthy all season, I think she probably would have ended up as our 2020 player of the year. However, the way she played at the beginning of the season was more than enough to be the runner-up 2020 of the summer.
Incoming Junior of the Summer: Kiya Dorroh 6’1 2021 G/F Sabino/West Coast Premier EYBL
Not sure if another girl in the state had a better summer than our 2021 player of the year and runner up of the year. Dorroh jumped from 15 big time offers to 22. Recently, Kansas and North Carolina have gotten in the mix and offered Dorroh. I expect many more offers to come flying her way and I expect a championship out of this season.
Runner-Up: Marisa Davis-Jones 6’1 2021 F Valley Vista/West Coast Premier EYBL
As said before, I’m not sure if anyone in the state had a better summer than Dorroh and Davis-Jones. MDJ saw some pretty high tier offers come in as well as her AAU teammate Kiya Dorroh. MDJ is super athletic and will definitely win some more awards this upcoming season.
Incoming Sophomore of the Summer: Kam Rhodes 5’6 2022 G Sabino/AZ Supreme
Rhodes had a terrific season and saw a ton of schools offer her throughout the summer. Offers aren’t the end all be all with this kid, she has so much potential to grow into a bigger and better player and she is already playing at an elite level.
Runner-Up: Lexi McNabb 5’6 2022 G Seton Catholic/AZ Select
McNabb’s summer is a story of growth, development, and coming into her own. She has greatly improved this summer and is now looking like a true force to be reckoned with on the offensive end. All she needed was some time to develop and gain confidence.
Incoming Freshman of the Summer: Mia Davis 5’10 2023 G Xavier/BSP
Mia Davis has taken the AZ scene by storm. It seems like everyone is talking about her and is super excited to see what she can do after her impressive Section 7 High School debut. Mia looks ready to compete with the best girls in AZ.
Runner-Up: Sienna Cherwinski 5’5 2023 G Xavier/AZ Select
Sienna also looked terrific at Section 7 and throughout the entire summer as well. She has really grown into a big time offensive threat and leader. As she develops more ball handling and play making ability, she will turn into an elite guard in AZ.
