Given the number of players still to write about, this article will focus on the remaining 2020s. A concluding article about the 2021s and 2022s is forthcoming. Unfortunately, Andale players are not included due to my not being able to catch one of their games. I hope to rectify that omission at some point in the future.
Nickerson 2020 guard Aspen Apfel trails the play against Chapman at Hutchinson Community College’s team camp.Aspen Apfel, 5’7″, W, Nickerson, 2020 – Apfel is very active, athletic, and has some ability to be a scorer. Among the moves she showed was to pull-up in transition and knock down a 12′ jumper. She also made a nifty move from the perimeter about 12 feet from the baseline – head fake left, a couple baseline dribbles, pull up and knock down a quick 6′ jumper.
Carlee Arnold, 4’10”, PG/2, Haven, 2020 – Given her stature Arnold can be easily overlooked. One thing people will quickly realize is she will not be easy to keep track of. Arnold moves very well without the ball and is a three-point threat. Impressive was her ability to get great entry passes to posted up teammates.
Makenna Kirkpatrick, 5’8″, F, Chapman 2020 – Kirkpatrick is a difficult match up as she has the ability to go end-to-end with speed, showed good strength, and can put points on the board from beyond the arc as well as around the basket. Typically draws opponent’s stronger post players to defend.
Haven 2020 point guard Carlee Arnold awaits an inbounds play to defend.Kara Matteson, 5’8″, PG, Haven, 2020 – Matteson showed good ability to weave through traffic and go end-to-end for a lay in. She is also showed the ability to knock down a perimeter shot after a catch and a dribble or two. Matteson needs to improve her quickness and footwork to better compete 1-on-1 on the defensive end.
Hutchinson 2020 guard Tina Robertson shoots a three during a game at Hutchinson Community College’s team camp.Tina Robertson, 5’8″, G, Hutchinson, 2020 – Robertson is an athletic, perimeter shooter with good transition speed. Usually found playing shooting guard she has the ability to play some point as well as small forward. Robertson does a solid job of finding and boxing out opponents.
Peyton Suther, 5’9″, F, Chapman, 2020 – Suther is a lanky, if slightly built, forward with the ability to hit the 20′ three pointer and get to the hole quickly. She will be one to watch as she gets stronger.
