For more than three decades in Colorado and Kansas Robert has been involved in basketball as an official (17 years) and coach from YMCA youth basketball to the collegiate level. Highlights include leading Deer Trail High School (CO) girls to a state tournament berth, working a summer for Gene Keady’s summer basketball camps at Purdue, and serving on the organizing committee of and keeping score for the first two years of Kansas’ Class 4A Division II state basketball tournament. He has been head girls coach at Platte Canyon High School (CO), junior varsity girls coach at Alamosa High School (CO), and was a volunteer assistant women’s coach with Colorado College (NCAA Div. III) and what is now Adams State University (NCAA Div. II). Most recently he was head junior high girls coach at Hutchinson Trinity (KS). Jeremy Deckard brings an extensive background in education and sports to his scouting role at Prep Network. He has worked as an adjunct history instructor, secondary school teacher, coach, sports writer, and professional trainer. As a sportswriter he worked three years with the Pittsburg Morning Sun and six years with the Topeka Capital Journal. He also worked for the Wichita Wingnut baseball organization and for the Emporia State University Sports Information Department. He wrote a popular weekly baseball blog, View From the Upper Deck. He self-published a book, Capital City Cubbie: Tales and Travels of Kansas Cubs Fan in 2012. During his years as a sportswriter he covered two National Championship Football Games, the 2014 ALCS, 2014 World Series, 2015 ALCS, and several Kansas State Basketball Tournaments and Championship Football games. Deckard has coached the following sports in Kansas public schools: football, volleyball, and basketball. He has a Master of Arts degree in History from Emporia State, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Pittsburg State University. Deckard was honored for his professional training and government work with Member of the Year Awards from the Olathe Human Relations Department and the Kansas Human Relations Association. He lives in Topeka with wife, and three French Bulldogs (Wrigley Dawson, Andre Rizzo, and Leon Bryant).
