This past weekend, teams from across Arizona traveled to destinations in the Metro Valley Area to show what they have to offer. Within the tournament, there were four players who broke out among the rest of the group and showed that they have the potential to extend their basketball career far beyond their high school careers.
Lilly Ramos, Class of 2021, Florence High: Lilly is a combo guard who is a natural born leader. Although she goes to a smaller school, she plays with a big personality. From a mile away, her voice can be heard delegating her team so that they are able to perform at the best of their ability. In addition to this, she is able to motivate the people around her in a way that they feel not only involved but also appreciated. Along with vocal ability, she also encompasses a variety of shifty moves in order to weave her way to the basket. Lilly is the type of player who gets better and better every game; at any moment she is going to become unstoppable.
Alex Key, Class of 2022, Dobson High: Alex is a post that plays bigger than her size. With this being said, Alex is a extremely fundamentally sound player that is able to do the right things at the right time. Whether it be boxing out or moving without the ball, she can give her team what they need when they need it. In addition to this, this young player has a strong ability to finish around the rim and complete different post moves. With still having three years of high school left to improve, the possibilities for Alex’s game are limitless.
Victoria Reyes, Class of 2022, Red Mountain High: Victoria Reyes is a point guard who is able to get her team going from start to finish. Whether it be igniting the offense or settling the team down, Victoria is there to do it all. In addition to her leadership stature, Victoria also has the ability to play both offense and defense extremely well. On both ends of the court, she leads her team with her heart and her hustle. With a few years left to grow, Victoria is not going anywhere and will only continue to make more and more of a statement with her ability.
Morning Star Scabby, Class of 2020, Westwood High: Morning Star is a versatile player who not only has an amazing name but an amazing game. On her club team, she is relied on to play any and all positions. Although this is true, her assets shine bright when she is playing in the post. Morning Star has a get after it mentality where there is nothing and no one in her way that can stop her from getting what she wants. Therefore, her extreme physicality helps push her team to succeed at the highest level. Morning Star still has a lot of room to grow and she will only become a better player as she transitions into her senior year at Westwood High School.
