Continue ReadingI’m a visual person and I love going back and observing pictures that I’ve taken over the years because things will pop back into my head. My being a visual also tells me that I need to see things for myself and not just go by what someone else has said because not everyone sees things the same way. I personally caught over 20 freshmen I’ll be adding to the 2023 Watch List for Prep Girls Hoops and as I’ve state before, this is a WATCH LIST and the only real list you need to be concerned with is how many college coaches have you on their list. With that being said, I’m opening things up with some freshmen I caught that I think will pay dividends early in high school and here we go
Jada WilliamsSammy Wagner-6’1 G/F- San Antonio Finest Dungee– each year I’ve watched her grow, on and off the court and she has size, 73 inches, she has a college ready body, she’s already committed to Baylor and she has not only a very impressive skill set, her desire to get better is second to none. She scores from mid to long range easily and her ability to create her shot, at her size, makes her hard to defend because she understands how to set up defenders and with her power, she finishes strongly
Jada Williams-5’7 PG-Missouri Phenom 16U EYBL– showed up and out on national TV and JR NBA Global Championship but the first time I saw her, maybe three years ago, the first thing that caught my eye was her poise playing against high school players. That is a definite plus when you candle pressure at a young age and now she’s dishing it out with regularity. An explosive first step gives her several options because she sees the floor and and threads the needle on her passes or can just pull-up and hit the mid to long range or blow by defenders
Maddie CoxMaddie Cox-6’1 SF- Pro Skills 14U Donnelly– I remember watching her shoot the long ball during halftime at older sister’s (Lauren Cox) high school games and I was just glued to this kid getting after it. Well over the years, I’ve watched her progression on the court, going from a back to the basket player to once again, dropping the long ball but her midrange has taken off, as well as her being in attack mode and watching her elevate over defenders over and over tells me a lot. Good defender with impressive timing, she can block shots and handle the ball, the length of the court for baskets
Brandy JonesBrandy Jones-5’4 PG-Texas Savage 14U– runs the show on a very talented squad with several players that will be added to the Watch List but the game starts at the one, always and always will and she runs it fluidly and efficiently. Understanding how to control tempo at a young age is always a plus but her court vision, BB-IQ and being a vocal leader adds fuel to the fire because she can change the momentum of a game in so many ways. She handles the ball under pressure, has a nice pull-up in transition, not to mention her three ball, but her jumper, from wherever she wants is not only consistent and effective, she gets it off with ease
Grace SlaughterGrace Slaughter-6’1 SG-Missouri Phenom-Topeka- I was on another court from afar and kept watching her drop 30 footers and although I wasn’t at a hunnid percent, I moved over to make sure I wasn’t seeing a mirage. By the time the game was over, it was a barrage of whatever she wanted to do to put the ball in the basket. She scored with her back to the basket, she attacked from the wing, she pulled up and nailed the midrange and with her size, that was hard to defend, but her range was something to see but I really love her upside as well because she’s nowhere near the finished product, which is scary, for defenders
Crislyn RoseCrislyn Rose-5’5 combo-Lady Drive Nation Duncan 2023- lots of incoming freshmen from LDN will be added to the Watch List and this young lady simply left me speechless. They were down double digits early and I was getting ready to “float” but she made back to back steals and finished for layups, hit a three and threw two “no looks” for an assist in a span of less than two minutes so it was now a game but when changed hands going full speed, in the air, and finished with contact as well as the and one, I’m thinking to myself, she will definitely be JEFFERSONIZED on the 2023 Watch List. No matter what you hear or even believe, there are some things you just can’t teach and she possesses a lot of them
