There was plenty of top talent on display and I felt that the girls were really pushed and challenged. It was really fun to see some of the best girls in state play against one another.
I just wanted to write up a little article discussing some players who I felt stood out. First up, Ally Stedman. Stedman had the best performance of the night, in my opinion. She could not miss from down town, used her craftiness to get to the basket, and dished out a ton of assists. Stedman has been improving a ton and every time I see her, I’m that much more impressed by her.
Shayla O’Neil was another stand out. I haven’t seen her too much so I have been wanting to see more of what she can do. She can hoop! Pretty solid defender overall and she showed that she can knock down the mid-range and 3 ball with consistency.
Marisa Davis-Jones started out a little cold. She quickly picked it up and showed off her strength and athleticism. MDJ really excels at perimeter defense due to her height, wing span, and quick feet.
Madison Connor looked really good, although her shot wasn’t falling too much. She was knockdown from mid-range but struggled shooting the 3 a bit tonight. She can still score easily without the 3 so I wouldn’t be too worried.
Jess Finney and Taty Clayburne both looked really good as well. They scored the ball a ton and Clayburne especially looked good facilitating. Finney was ridiculous from 3, as always. She is always a threat from 3, even when she’s in the triple threat position 2 steps behind the NBA line with a defender pressed up on her. Kid can shoot!
I think I’ll continue to stop in and check out the scene whenever they do these open runs. They are a blast to watch as they are super competitive and feature some of the best players in state.
