Neysa Munguia – Agua Fria
Munguia used her size well, as she was bigger than everybody on the court at all times. She protected the rim and came down with nearly every rebound in her vicinity (she averaged over 11 boards this past varsity season) and her presence near the basket made Flash draw in closer and give space to everybody else.
Paola Perez – Tempe Prep
The tournament officials named her the MVP, and for good reason. She was fearless attacking the basket throughout the entire event, using both her quickness and strength on the ball to get into the lane and draw fouls. From there she would hit free throws that kept the Diablos in the lead. She played well in man defense, too.
Shelly Redhouse – Buckeye Union
The other two mentioned in this article were running the majority of the offense from the front and backcourt, but that left Redhouse open with some space that she used to take and make plenty of shots from beyond the arc. Her presence there was a threat so that the defenders could not cheat too far over to the others, as well.
