At majority of camps there is always a skill component and live game play. Often times, one may look great in drills to potential signal the skill level of player. On the other hand, skill work and drills are not always a guaranteed indication of how well a player can actually play on the court.
Presumably, I expected to see many of the players who were top in skills to show ability in live play, which many delivered. Nonetheless, I figured I would witness other players do better and standout during scrimmages that did not during the skill session portion. Many girls delivered on my notion and are featured below about their games as to why they stood out during the scrimmage from my perspective!
Standout Part 1
Bryana Block-Pleasant Grove High School
Class of 2022
Based off of skill work I was expecting to see some good work, hidden in the game for a small time and then she spurted. She went a run for 8 points using moves to get each one. Super fun to watch.
Micah Gray-Classes SAS High School
Class of 2022
Doing what she always does in stepping out without notice to snipe a 3 point down. New to see Gray handing out great assist with some behind-the-back passes and great finishes with the proper hand.
Jiya Perry-Desoto High School
Class of 2022
Although I have witnessed Perry play multiple times, it was nice to see her game speak loud just be here presence on the court with or without the ball in her hands Many plays went through her as she stepped up to do whatever the squad needed at the time which is only possible because of her high skill set from multiple positions!
Jamia Harris-Desoto High School
Class of 2022
In my opinion, the game just looks too easy for Harris. She executes moves perfectly in the game and change of speed is one of the best I have seen. To add, she had more touches on the ball and steals by herself compared to the entire camp.
Kamari Forrest-Faith Family High School
Class of 2022
-Most complete game at the camp and works really well with others to compete. Rebounds well on both ends of the floor, execute mid-range options as well as takes timely perimeter shots. Next thing I know she pushes up the floor for lay ups or the proper pass for the best shot. Skill set allows her to defend guards and size allows her to defend inside players.
