On the other hand, skill work and drills are not always a guaranteed indication of how well a player can actually play on the court.
Presumably, I expected to see many of the players who were top in skills to show ability in live play, which many delivered. Nonetheless, I figured I would witness other players do better and standout during scrimmages that did not during the skill session portion. Many girls delivered on my notion and are featured below about their games as to why they stood out during the scrimmage from my perspective!
Standouts Part 2
Rachel Banda-Forney High School
Class of 2022
High IQ in the game due to her shot selection over opponents. Everything looked fluid and great touch on the ball on all shots I witnessed from her hands. Ready to shoot on the perimeter but killed the mid-range game whether jump stops, floaters or drawing defenders inside in order to make the dish with the proper type of pass.
Raven Busby-North Forney High School
Class of 2021
One of the most intriguing players I have witnessed in a long time during my basketball life. Unconventional mechanics and methods, but she plays so hard and her game play execution is on point. Her moves may not “look” the part of what many may be accustomed to seeing with the ball but she executes correctly basis of exposing the defense mistakes to score the ball. Every time I had a thought or mental picture of what to do in situations such has finishing with off-hand, shoot the quick pull up off of proper footwork…she did it and nailed it.
Tionna Herron-Desoto High School
Class of 2022
Herron is a rebounding machine on both ends of the floor. Every ball that came her way off the rim that was near her hands was going to be her in her hands. I especially loved the way she grabsthe ball out of the air. Good and efficient rebounders know that. You must snatch the ball to guarantee the ball and Herron has her snatch down.
Abrey Odom-Hebron High School
Class of 2021
Shooter that likes to shoot the ball. Although the lay-up would be the best basketball play, she is going to shoot the ball instead. Often times, some shooters are only good at shots that are behind the arc but that’s not the case for Odom. What I appreciate most is that she is a 100% shooter, meaning she can shoot from all spots on the court as long as it is a shot. Shots like 3-pointers, Mid-Range, Transition Jumpers, etc. In addition, nice mechanics, fluid shot and good-looking form.
