Let’s take a look at some of the players in Colorado who proved last year that they can shoot from deep better than the rest.
Hannah Simemtal, 2020, 5-8, G, Pueblo West
Last year, she ranked No. 2 in Colorado for 3-pointers made. Simental was 85 for 191 for an average of 45 percent. What makes her even more dangerous is that she can shoot from distance off the dribble and create baskets for herself.
Carly Dilworth, 2021, 5-6, G, Denver South
She will be an upperclassman this year after she ranked No. 4 in the state in made 3-pointers as a sophomore last season. She shot from behind the arc at 75-for-151, just shy of 50 percent. Dilworth does a great job shooting in transition and is not shy at all to let the ball go, looking to shoot every time she touches it. Expect her to be a handful for teams in the upcoming season.
Avery Vansickle, 2021, 5-9, W, Regis Jesuit
Vansickle has a sniper rifle when it comes to her shooting, whether that be off the dribble and in transition. It will be interesting to see how she has progressed as summer basketball comes to an end. Ranked No. 5 in the state as a sophomore in 3-pointers made, she shot the long ball at 40 percent (72 for 179). She will be a player to look out for this coming season with a Regis Jesuit team that has a history of winning state.
Serin Dunne, 2020, 5-7, G, Mesa Ridge
This girl gets buckets as soon as she walks in the gym. She is one of the top players in Colorado and can shoot the ball with the best of them. Ranked No. 15 in 3-pointers made, she shot 59 for 139 from behind the arc, which is an impressive 42 percent. Dunne’s 20.6 points per game last season helped lead Mesa Ridge to 19 wins and she’ll be back for plenty more in 2019-20.
Makayla Hemingway, 2020, 5-11, W, Cherokee Trail
One of Colorado’s best all-around players, Hemingway is a vocal leader. She has a high basketball IQ and she doesn’t mind doing the little things to help her team win. Outside of her ability to shoot the basketball, she also does a great job in the pick-and-roll game.
