Things change and shift opinions pretty often, my predictions made a couple of months ago are most likely different from what they are now as I’ve had more time to be around the players and evaluate them further.
This conference is the most competitive in my opinion. There are a ton of good teams and I really think it may come down to who’s hot in that moment come playoff time. While there are a ton of good teams in 6A, I will do my best to predict my state championship favorite and my runner-up.
State Championship Favorite: Valley Vista
Valley Vista has a ton of talent on their roster and I would bet that they have the most size out of any team in state. They have serviceable guard play to hold them over until Jennah Isai is back from her injury. I am unsure of when she will be back but I am positive that she will elevate this team to a whole new level once she returns. Until then, they will have to make due with the #2 ranked player in 2021, Marisa Davis-Jones. Sounds super tough over there right? This is a testament to the insane amount of talent on their roster. Even without Isai, I think they could still win state.
State Championship Runner-Up: Perry
Perry definitely has the guard play advantage against Valley Vista but VV has the upper hand in the front court. Deciding between Perry and Valley Vista was very tough and it was close but in the end I chose Valley Vista because if Isai comes back, that will definitely narrow that advantage in the backcourt. I could definitely see Perry winning it all this year. They have two outstanding prospects in Taty Clayburne and Madison Connor and a bunch of great role players. If Isai doesn’t come back this season, that could drastically change the scale of things.
These are my top two teams in the conference. I think both programs have a strong chance of taking the championship this year. However, the road to state is a tough one in 6A. There are a ton of great teams this year!
