The Lobos have had a vast amount of talented players move on to the next level and beyond, I remember watching them “back in the day” when things were different contrary to popular belief but no matter what you think, I know it’s repetitive, but in this climate, you have to be, so the game has, will and always will start at the one
Atlantis White and Aniyah SanfordSenior Atlantis White stepped in a huge way last season as she was a role player that came up big in the playoffs knocking down pressure threes and just making big plays. Her leadership is contagious and what better to tie in that old saying in the opening paragraph than having Aniyah Sanford come in as a freshman and learn from a fellow #sizedontmatter, when you can play, point guard. White is one of those players that never gets rattled and plays with passion and a smile as she just understands how to run a team. If there was any doubt in my mind that Sanford would make the adjustment smoothly, when she stole the ball back to back plays against one of the state’s top guards and finished on the other end, that question was answered
Saija ClevelandSaija Cleveland continues to show beast like capability, her athleticism is unreal at times as she elevates over defenders and can finish with players hanging on her. Rebounds on both ends, plays man defense well and also understands how to play the passing lane. Fellow sophomores Akira Hodges and Peyton Foster were pleasant surprises, Hodges attacks strong from the wing but on top of that, she understands how to create and pull-up in traffic. Foster is rugged, attacks from the wing and when I say attack, I mean powerfully as she showed she was an “and one” waiting to happen. Both showed they could rebound, giving them an impressive front-line
Speaking of impressive front line, how about 6’2 Kaley Perkins, I have her listed as one of the top juniors in 2021 and when you can drop it from anywhere with her size, believe me college coaches notice. One of the teams leading scorers from last season, she does it from, well almost anywhere, be it attacking the rim, nice moves in the paint or just the midrange which is consistently a threat making her one of the areas best scorers
