Continue ReadingFargo Davies was one of the youngest teams in the EDC last season and while there were a lot of good moments, the season for the Eagles was mostly marred with inconsistency. While they lose their best player, there’s hope for a better season as a majority of the players that played last year are set to return.
GO-TO PLAYER: Taylor Fey
Fey was an all-EDC player as a sophomore, averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game. She did it while only taking about eight shots per game as well. Her ability to finish inside, get to the free throw line and create her own offense were all on display throughout the year and now she’ll step into the main role. She could be in for a monster season.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Ryleigh Wacha
Wacha is another star in that talented junior class for the Eagles and she showed signs of being a high-end player in the EDC as a sophomore, averaging 10 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists. She knocked down 37 percent of her 3-point attempts too. She’ll be the primary ball handler for the Eagles and if she can cut down on turnovers, she’ll be one of the best guards in the conference.
QUESTION: Can the young players take the next step?
The Eagles played a lot of freshmen and sophomores last year, with five underclassmen averaging double figure minutes per game. Will the lumps those youngsters took last year pay off in growth and improvement this year? Can the play be more steady?
OUTLOOK
Davies is always going to have plenty of talent and while it was inexperienced last year, the talent is undeniable. Now that core is a little older and with players like Brooklyn Koenig and Ava Wild joining Wacha and Fey, this Eagles team has the talent to contend at the top of what should be a strong EDC from the top through the middle.
