They advanced to the state tournament too, winning two games in the WDA Tourney. With four starters back, Williston could be one of the better teams in the league this season.
GO-TO PLAYER: Brooklyn Douglas
Douglas averaged better than 11 points per game as a junior and shot 37 percent from the 3-point line. She’s a solid all-around player who contributes on the defensive end, on the glass and as a playmaker but she’ll be expected to deliver consistent offense this winter more than ever. If she can improve as a finisher around the rim, she’ll be one of the better scorers in the WDA.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Corbyn Davis
Davis averaged eight points and led the team is assists as a sophomore. She showed promise as a primary ball handler and shot creator and while she was inconsistent as a shooter, she’ll have a big opportunity to put up bigger numbers this winter. If she can cut down on her turnovers a little bit and make a marginal improvement as a finisher, she can be an all-league point guard.
QUESTION: Can the Coyotes make some progress offensively?
While the Coyotes were a functional team a year ago, offense held them back at times. They shot just 35 percent from the field on the season and turned the ball over 19 times per game. Their defense was a strength and should continue to be. How much better can they be on the offensive end? They won’t lack for experience this winter, and if they want to compete for a higher spot in the conference this year, they’ll need to make improvements on that end.
OUTLOOK
The WDA should be really competitive this winter and Williston is equipped to be right in the thick of things. The Coyotes graduated just one player and will now have a roster full of upperclassmen including all-league caliber players in Douglas and Makia Remus. They’ve got the talent to have another nice season.
