This was very difficult to choose because there are a ton of great teams throughout the conferences. Additionally, it is hard to determine who would win when a head to head contest when some of these teams never play each other.
#1 Sabino (3A)
This selection may shock some people because they’re a 3A school in Tucson. Sabino has 3 legit D1 prospects and they narrowly defeated Perry for the Section 7 Championship…without Kiya Dorroh aka the #1 player in 2021 (AZ) and #54 in 2021 (Nationally/ESPN Ranking). She would have absolutely changed the outcome of that game and when Sabino has all 3 of their big time prospects, Doty, Rhodes, and Dorroh, they are tough to beat!
#2 Valley Vista (6A)
Just like with all of my team prediction articles, I am judging their team with Jennah Isai. I know she’s not back yet but when she does, she’s going to be a game changer. VV has a ton of weapons and a ton of size. It would be an awesome game to see Marisa Davis-Jones and Jennah Isai take on the three headed monster of Rhodes, Doty, and Dorroh.
#3 Millennium (5A)
Millennium has two committed D1 players and I think they would match up nicely against the teams below, taking the win eventually. Singleton is one of the best defensive guards in state and Zelaya is a technician in the low post. She can also stretch it out and shoot the mid-range comfortably. Factor in all of their support pieces and young prospects and you got a very solid squad.
#4 Perry (6A)
Perry comes in next at number 4! I think their lack of size down low would really hurt them matching up against Millennium. They have some of the best guard play you will ever see in a team with Clayburne and Connor but I’d give the edge to Millennium in that match up.
#5 Seton Catholic (4A)
Lastly, we have Seton Catholic. Seton is my top pick to win state in 4A. They are a very deep roster but they don’t have that star power that some of these other teams do. While they are a very good team and are coached by one of the best to ever do it, I think they’re lack of a top player narrows them out against some of the these other teams listed above.
