Took a nice Sunday drive down the coast to check out the UC San Diego Elite Camp that Heidi VanDerveer put on for the girls in Southern California and other surrounding states. UCSDs staff is very intelligent and crafty when it comes to recruiting and evaluating players, you could see it, cause she had about 100 girls in attendance and it was a beautiful thing to watch these girls get worked out by the UCSD Staff. Heidi is assisted by Chelsea Carlisle - Associate Head Coach and Assistants, Britinee Yasukochi, Dalayna Sampton and Beth Mounier.

Those that stood out to our staff in the gym that day:
2020, 6'1, Compton Dominguez HS, Leigha Harris is a super athletic wing guard with a nice handle and feel to the game, she is quick up the floor with head up and will not hesistate to advance the ball like a good guard should. Plays with an unselfishness like no other and is one of the best finishers in the state. She shoots the ball from all three levels, but is improving her shooting from the 3 land. This kid is long and lanky and sits down on defense and becomes a geniune stopper.
2021, 5'9, SF, Valencia HS, Mailey Ballard is an aggressively offensive minded impact player on the floor, she plays with almost a vengeance when on the floor against anyone she comes across. She is skilled and gifted with the dribble, shoots it well, but can also put in on the floor and get to the rim, not afraid of contact. Mailey is one of the most hardest working players I have seen on the floor, so aggressive in her approach to the game.
2021, 6'1, PF, Mater Dei HS, Meaali'i Amosa is a big presence in the paint, she takes up space and moves people when she is scoring the ball. She can seal front or back, she can finish thru contact with no problems, almost taking the defensive person up with her when she scores. Shot blocker, changes shots from opponents coming into the paint, which makes her dangerous on defense.
2021, 5'9, PG, West Torrance HS, Anaya James is the prototypical point guard with a smooth but calm game in her bag of tricks. She is relentless to score, pass and defend on the floor and all of that makes her a very good weapon against any team. She shoots the ball well from all three levels, will always make the right play, because she is not selfish, but can get to the point, where she can take over a game.
