Elyssa Coleman 6’3 (Atascocita) and Precious Johnson 6’6 ( Baytown Sterling) have already committed to Texas and I know Fatou Samb 6’4 (Westside) has had several BCS looks and offers as well as went on some Ivy League visits which shows her versatility, one of the top 2020 guards in Texas, Harmoni Turner, surprised a lot of people by committing to Harvard so who knows, that could be interesting. Nevertheless, the growth from where these posts were years ago to what they’ve become shows dedication so here’s the breakdown. I’m adding 2021 Tierra Simon 6’1 (Heights) as well as 2023 RyLee Grays 6’3 (The Village School)
Fatou SambFatou Samb -first look years ago I saw the potential combined with size, length, and athleticism, as well as her agility, told me she was working with an abundance of tools that when fine-tuned, would make her a legitimate threat. Not playing varsity in her freshman year let her work on many things and she kept working, especially having “breakout” club seasons last year. I love her upside, she’ll be an even better college player
Precious Johnson-she wasn’t in middle school but that size was intriguing, to say the least, and that old meaningless saying of you can’t teach size equates to absolutely nothing if you can’t play but she could back then. She rebounded, ran the floor and finished. Over the years, she’s added much more, facing the basket to score, reading and switching nicely on defense as well as her presence in the paint
Elyssa Coleman-when I saw her grab a rebound, throw the outlet, run the floor and finish on the other end, I knew she was on to something. When you’re athletic, mobile and already having a college frame at a young age, things usually fall into place. She developed nice moves in the paint, her footwork got better and she finished stronger and stronger with contact over the years to put together an impressive resume
Elyssa ColemanTierra Simon-the progression she has shown year after year just makes me smile. She does so many things from the 5 position, attacks from the wing, faces the basket for the midrange and defends on the perimeter but what really gets me is her ability to pass and hit her teammates. Versatility is one on her many intangibles and that will be attractive to many college coaches, trust me, I’m not a novice
RyLee Grays– she told me I spelled her name incorrectly, yet again, but after “THE MOVE” her correct spelling is forever embedded in my memory, well so is the move. The talented freshman showed D1 potential in the 6th grade, not sure if those were my exact words, options galore, oh yeah, guess I was right. I saw that passion early and it continues to show as she “wants” this and better, not for defenders, she’s bringing “it”
