Five Players To Watch: Patriot District

There’s plenty of talent to watch in a district where anything can happen, displayed by the WT Woodson Cavaliers, who almost won the district despite finishing just three games above .500 last season. I’m excited to watch these teams duel it out, and expecting these players have stellar seasons: <span style="font-weight: 400"><strong>Bella Edwards (Robinson, 2020)</strong> </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">Coming off of a junior season in which she was named second team all-region, Edwards is poised to have a great last season for the Rams. She scored in double figures thirteen times last season, including two performances of 26 and 27 points. Expect her to be a key factor in any success the Rams have this season as they look to get to the top of the district.</span> (photo courtesy of Twitter) <span style="font-weight: 400"><strong>Lexi White (West Springfield, 2021)</strong> </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">This second team all-region PG did a little bit of everything for the Spartans last season. Her great instincts and court awareness make her one of the most solid players on the floor at any time, and her length gives her opponents extra trouble on offense. She scored in double figures fifteen times as a sophomore and will definitely be one of West Springfield’s top scorers this winter. </span> <span style="font-weight: 400"><strong>Gabbi San Diego (South County, 2020)</strong> </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">Don’t let the size of South County’s PG fool you for one second. Her handles and ability to drive to the basket make her difficult to cover, especially when she can finish at the rim or dish to bigs. Not to mention, she can hit the three ball pretty often as well. As long as she’s healthy, South County will be a hard team to handle this winter.</span> (photo courtesy of Twitter) <span style="font-weight: 400"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="149826" first="Eunice" last="Yoon"] (WT Woodson, 2022)</strong> </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">As a freshman, Yoon recorded 48 three-point field goals, which is probably why she scored in double figures seven times. One of these games included a 26-point game in a win over Robinson. She also isn’t afraid to crash the boards as a guard. It’ll be interesting to see what she does as a sophomore for the Cavaliers, who will look to go farther in the postseason after being knocked out in the region quarterfinals last season.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400"><strong>Julianna Park (Lake Braddock, 2021)</strong> </span> <span style="font-weight: 400">As a sophomore last season, Park scored in double figures seven times for the Bruins. Able to play on the inside and outside, look for her to do a little bit of everything this winter, who finished 14-10 last season but got knocked out in the district semis against WT Woodson.  </span>
