Well, Hightower has a talented returning squad as well as a transfer, they have three D1 players on their squad who have already committed to college and are listed among the Top 100 in the 2020 class, on here, as well as a supporting cast to fill in the blanks. Shadow Creek, led by Bre’Yon White and R’Mani Taylor, will probably be their toughest district foe but the new look Manvel might have something to say about that
Destini LombardDestini Lombard-5’11 G/F (LSU) one of those two-sport players that excels in both and hearing she was heading to LSU after seeing her over the summer wasn’t a big surprise as she’s elevated her game year after year. She can play the 1-4, well if you click on the link you’ll see I was given a heads up years ago and Coach Degar saying she hadn’t scratched the surface was right on the money because she can score multiple ways, including the long ball but guess what, she’ll be an even better college player
Taelour Purvis 5’8 G (Houston) one thing I always liked about her game, other than being long and very athletic, was the fact that she played hard baseline to baseline and watching her over the summer, she definitely got it with college coaches beaming ear to ear watching her dive on the floor and in the stands for loose balls. Some things you can’t teach, effort is definitely one and trying to guard her is a chore. Her handle and jumper kept getting better, she always could attack and finish but she has put everything together with the Hurricanes as she is ready for that last run
Zaria JohnsonZaria Johnson-6’1 F (Virginia) I remember her energy and enthusiasm as a young 7th grader and she always came with the mindset that “you will NOT outwork her” and over the years, everything seemed to fall into place as she became one of those players that could turn a game around from the defensive end. She rebounds on both ends, defends inside and outside and plays the passing lane but her finishes are consistent and fall into the “highlight waiting to happen” category. Her addition to the Hurricanes make a legitimate threat to not only win district but the region as well
