Continue ReadingI mentioned earlier that game 2 of the South Texas Classic between Judson and Johnson definitely got my adrenaline going because whenever you have JJ, “Good Times” are in the making. I’ve used that so many times over the years, playing with players initials, like talented freshman Ja’Shelle Johnson from, where else, Johnson and I have a saying for triple J as well but speaking of talented freshman, Judson’s Ariana Rodriguez caught my eye a while back with her ability to catch and shoot and was also mentioned in another article regarding #sizedontamtter when you can play and senior Chiresha King falls into that same category as her explosive first step keeps defenders on their toes but she bring so many other things to the table on both ends
Kierra SanderlinI don’t make this stuff up, senior guard Jonmecia Baskin plays bigger than her listed 5’8, she rebounds over and finishes against taller opponents because of her desire and athletic ability. She attacks strongly and brings so much energy. With that being said, how did I miss ’21 Kierra Sanderlin for the Texas Top 100 in her class? Well abracadabra, she jumps into the Top 40 just like that because she is a “never takes a play-off” type player, and I mean never. Her pull up jumper in transition or attacking the basket acrobatically is something to see. She also battles in the paint, off the boards, on the floor, you name it, she wants it
Amira MabryI did have Amira Mabry on my 2022 Watch List, long, athletic and a shade under the magic number, one more time, that’s 6’0, yet her wingspan probably has her at 6’2. She alters, deflects or blocks shots and can ignite the break afterward. She also rebounds on the defensive end and runs the floor to finish on the other end and one thing I know is that you can’t teach that. On the offensive end, she has good hands and footwork, combined with a soft touch facing the basket or finishing strongly after contact. This is a solid squad and I’m thinking that many of these teams that I saw at the South Texas Classic could be playing for something in the Texas Invitational
