Continue ReadingFargo South was one of hte youngest teams in the EDC last season, going through the year without a senior while only two upperclassmen even earned rgular playing time. They started five freshman or sophomores just about all season and predictably, took some lumps. With that entire group back – and some entering upperclass years – this team could make a sizable jump in 2019-20.
GO-TO PLAYER: Adie Wagner
Wagner was an all-conference pick last year in just her freshman season, as she averaged nearly 17 points per game and was one of the better deep-range shooters in the EDC. Much of her numbers came on pure volume last year as she attempted more than 16 shots per game but without much help around her, she was still able to produce consistently. If she can make a jump with her efficiency, we could be talking about one of the best players in the league all-around.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Paige Schroeder
Schroeder started and played a ton last yar as a sophomore and averaged eight points and better than nine rebounds per game. She was easily the team’s most efficient player, showing off a nice touch, a strong motor and an activity level that allowed her to consistently produce. If she makes that typical sophomore-to-junior jump, she’s a double-double force and one of the best posts in the conference.
SEASON OUTLOOK
The Bruins have a long way to go to in order to get into the thick of the EDC when talking about competing for league titles and state tournament appearances. This team won’t go into the year with those kinds of expectations; rather the focus will be on development and growth. They are still young in that they’ll play a lot of sophomores and juniors, but they aren’t young in experience anymore. Positive steps should be expected, which is cause for excitement.
