VC was consistently in the middle last year, never winning or losing more than two games in a row. They graduate their best overall player in Taryn Dieterle, but return several solid pieces.
GO-TO PLAYER: Lyndsey Noeske
Noeske was productive in her junior season, averaging better than 10 points and six rebounds per game. She undoubtedly benefited from the attention Dieterle drew and took advantage of it inside. Now with her gone, Noeske becomes the featured player inside and she’ll have to bring it every night on both ends of the floor.
BREAKOUT CANDIDATE: Jadyn Dieterle
Dieterle averaged nearly seven points, five rebounds and five assists per game last year as a sophomore. She’ll take over lead ball-handling duties now in her upperclass years and she’s got the ability to be a really productive all-around player. If she can clean up some of the turnovers and improve on her efficiency numbers, she’s got all-league potential.
SEASON OUTLOOK
Valley City may not have the same ceiling it did a year ago with Taryn Dieterle gone to graduation. She averaged 19 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. That kind of production is going to be really hard to replace for a team that already struggled offensively. But Noeske is a potential double-double player and Jadyn Dieterle could emerge as a very good player. Beyond those two, there will be a lot of fresh faces the Hi-Liners need to break into varsity action.
