Polars to Watch
Jasmine Jackson, Guard, Senior (2020)
Jackson is the top returning scorer from the Polars last season at just under 12 points per game. She has a great drive to the bucket and can shoot the three well. She also plays the team game well and was top of the column as far as assists go for the Polars last year. Has been part of the Polars squad since the 7th grade, so it’s safe to say she a seasoned veteran to watch for Minneapolis North. Jackson has also had good looks from college coaches.
Sadiah Marshall, Center, Junior (2021)
Marshall will be the starting center for the Polars this year after coming off the bench last season. Ended last year’s season by being the 2nd leading rebounder on the Polars. Coach Fiestleben said Marshall could become a “double-double” player this Winter.
Alex McNeil, Guard, Sophomore (2022)
McNeil was the 3rd leading scorer for the Polars last season and their deepest 3 point shot threat, as she led the Polars with the long ball. Look for McNeil to also be an exceptional guard in the 2022 class, has her ball-handling skills and court vision are very strong. Was one the top performers by the end of the season and had a 22 point half in one of the Polars playoff games last season. Look for McNeil and Jackson to led this backcourt for the Polars as McNeil as well has college interest as well in 2022.
Jenelle Sanner-Robinson, Guard, Junior (2021)
Sanner-Robinson was an off the bench type player last season but rose up midway through the season to give the Polars another 3 point shooter and excellent free throw shooter when it matters. She is a player that will “score in bunches” according to Coach Fiestleben.
Mykia Carpenter, Guard, Junior (2021)
Carpenter was a late-season call up from JV for the Polars last season. Had some large showings on JV including a 26 point game with 6 three-pointers. “She proved she belonged on Varsity” Coach Fiestleben said as Mykia was also a key player in the Polars two playoff games from the last season.
Team Goals for the Polars
The team goals for Minneapolis North are unique outside of the basketball spectrum. “Being active in the northside community is goal number one” Coach Fiestleben told PGH Minnesota. He said his Polars team was very active this summer in the Northside community participating in many community events. Laying the foundation to make North a great basketball program is the Polars number two goal.
Improving on Last Year’s North Polars
The biggest improve that Minneapolis North can improve on is playing together during the “high times and low times” Coach Fiestleben told PGH Minnesota. The Minneapolis City Conference is anyone’s game based on last years standings from the top three teams which included Minneapolis North
The Biggest Minneapolis City Conference Foe for the Polars
The two biggest losses last year for the Polars came against Minneapolis South and North lost both of them by a total of 4 points. This is definitely why the Polars have the Minneapolis South game locked in on their calendar twice this season.
Thanks to Coach Mike Friestleben for the report on his Minneapolis North Polars team!
