Blake, Brandon, and I will be pushing out multiple different types of articles with as many angles as possible. I, personally, will be grouping players in positions who I thought stood out or played well. Below, you can find the point guards who I thought had a really good day.
Nyla Asad – 5’5 PG – 2020 – LaPorte
In my first viewing of Asad, I was really impressed. She was very quick with the ball and was aggressive in getting to the rim. I was most impressed with her ability to get into the lane and either score through the height or dish it off to an open teammate. I thought that she played very dynamically on both ends and was able to really make things happen on the floor.
Emilee Hope – 5’6 PG – 2020 – Henderson County (KY)
Hope was a player who had coaches buzzing all day long. The only player from Kentucky, Hope came to the event and was one of the top kids in the event. She plays with a great motor, she’s always active on defense, and she was hitting jumper after jumper. Hope played really well all event long and showed us that she is a scholarship level player. There will be a school that gets lucky to snag her.
Genesis Castro – 5’4 PG – 2021 – Avon
Castro is a small but aggressive scorer. She is tough, scrappy, and can shoot it from anywhere on the floor. Castro is a solid defender allowing her to not have a problem with the taller guards that she comes across. She’s a very good scoring point guard who can play on the ball as needed but is also very solid at playing off-ball. She was one of the top shooters that I saw at the event.
Taylor Heath – 5’3 PG – 2021 – Triton Central
Heath is a small, but high IQ passer. She can score it with touch at the rim but she really made her name known when I saw her by passing the ball. Heath was in control of the ball at all times and had a very good poise with it in her hands. She isn’t someone who you think is going to really hurt you, and then her combination of vision and craftiness really hurt you. She’s a true point guard who has honed her craft.
Jenna Louden – 5’4 PG – 2021 – Bedford North Lawrence
Louden was on her game at the showcase. She was able to do a lot of different things with the ball in her hands and was able to set the tone when I saw her. Louden is shifty with her handles, can get to the rim and score, and she sets her teammates up way. She is also one of those players who you just know that she’ll put her body on the floor for the ball. She’s another one of those scrappy Southern Indiana guards.
Teresa Maggio – 5’5 PG – 2022 – McCutcheon
I saw Maggio struggle at times on Sunday, but I thought that she showed great leadership and poise to fight through and still perform at a high level. Multiple times she was able to hit a tough jumper in the lane or score through someone driving down the lane. She’s scrappy, quick, and doesn’t need a ton of space to get her shot off. Maggio keeps her head up the floor really well allowing her to get others involved.
Karsyn Norman – 5’6 PG – 2023 – Bedford North Lawrence
Norman was her usual self on Sunday. She’s a quick guard who can finish at the rim and shoot the ball. She’s advanced for her age and already is strong with a good frame to absorb contact. There were a few possessions where I thought she looked like a senior as she is just so fluid with the ball in her hands. I enjoy watching her play because she knows the game so well for her age. She is among the top 2023’s in the state.
Kathryn Perry – 5’2 PG – 2021 – Shenandoah
Perry scored more on Sunday than I personally thought she was capable of and I was very impressed with her play throughout. She played tough, smart, and quick the entire day. Her defense caught my attention as well as she consistently was able to pickpocket her man and turn that into easy points. The combination of scoring, passing, and defense from Perry was very impressive.
Emme Rooney – 5’8 PG – 2022 – Silver Creek
Rooney first caught my attention this past summer in Louisville at Run 4 the Roses and today she once again played very well. Her ability to score at all three levels was noticeable as well as just the general toughness that she plays with. Rooney was on fire with her ability to play both ends of the floor at a high level. She was able to bring everyone on her team up a notch on the floor.
Tressa Senesac – 5’6 PG – 2022 – Benton Central
Senesac has grown a couple of inches from the last time that I saw her and her improvement was noticeable. She is always in command of the ball on the floor and on Sunday I thought that she took that up a level. She is a good ball-handler who is crafty with the ball creating space for herself. Senesac was able to get to the rim and score but was also finding open teammates. It was a good event for her this past weekend.
