Blake, Brandon, and I will be pushing out multiple different types of articles with as many angles as possible. I, personally, will be grouping players in positions who I thought stood out or played well. Below, you can find the shooting guards who I thought had a really good day.
Audra Emmerson – 5’7 SG – 2021 – Fishers
Emmerson was her usual self on Sunday. She’s a very good offensive piece to have on the floor with her ability to score at all three levels. He’s a tough defender who isn’t afraid to put her body on the line for her team as well. Each time I see Emmerson play she sticks out more, and I have seen her half a dozen times since last year. She just simply gets it done on the floor.
Kaylee Fuelling – 5’7 SG – 2021 – Norwell
I had not seen Fuelling prior to action at the Top 250. I thought that she looked very confident handling the ball as well as having confidence in her teammates to make plays. She played all out when I was watching her and I heard that she did that all day long. Fuelling showcased a nice looking jumper as well as the ability to get to the rim. She’s someone who I would love to see again.
Mikayla Hinshaw – 5’8 SG – 2022 – HSE
When I first saw Hinshaw, I wasn’t sure what to think of her but since the early spring I think she’s gotten a lot better. She looks more fluid with the ball in her hands and more confident when shooting the ball. She’ll need all the confidence she can get as her role will be expanded as a sophomore for HSE. Hinshaw is going to be someone who I watch closely to see how she looks in a year.
McKenzie Hudgen – 5’7 SG – 2021 – Mishawaka Marian
Hudgen is one of the premier scorers in the state. She can get to her spot on the floor really well, but she is also strong enough to score on the inside. I thought that she did a really nice job of spreading the ball around while still looking to score at a high level. She’s really a combo guard but shoots it so well off the catch that I think she might be suited better in college off the ball.
Chloe McKnight – 5’9 SG – 2021 – Bedford North Lawrence
I have seen McKnight just torch the nets before, and Sunday wasn’t one of those days. It was actually good for me to not see her shot the ball at a 50% clip because it allowed me to see other parts of her game. I thought she did a great job of simply moving the ball, sprinkling in a few 3-pointers and playing aggressive defense. McKnight was the complete package on Sunday and is a definite scholarship kid.
Vanessa Shafford – 5’9 SG – 2021 – Linton-Stockton
Shafford is such a pleasure to watch because she has such a high basketball IQ and can shoot the lights out from anywhere on the floor. Shafford showed her scoring versatility as she was getting to the rim, hitting pull-up jumpers, and nailing deep 3-pointers. Shafford was moving really well without the ball and showed me that she doesn’t have to be ball dominant to score. It was a great showing from her.
Kailyn Terrell – 5’6 SG – 2023 – Brownsburg
Terrell was a player whom I had seen a couple times this summer and I was very happy to have seen her again on Sunday. She caught my attention quickly on Sunday when she pulled down a rebound and ran the length of the floor for a basket over a defender. She played with a very nice pace to her game and it never felt like she was out of control. It was a solid first viewing for me of Terrell and I can’t wait to see her again.
Tori Thompson – 5’8 SG – 2023 – Lafayette Central Catholic
Thompson caught my eye immediately as she nailed a couple jumpers in a row for her team. I was impressed with the length and versatility that she showed while hitting jumper after jumper. I thought that she showed a very nice versatility within her game and was able to move things at a high level. Thompson is a player who I think can impact the varsity level fairly quickly.
Ryan Viele – 5’8 SG – 2022 – HSE
Viele has a calmness about her game that I really admired. I thought that she commanded the ball well when it was in her hands. She was able to do a couple of different things that impressed me on both ends of the floor. She played really well on offense both scoring and passing as well as pressuring on defense. Viele, along with Hinshaw (above) are going to see a bigger load as sophomores at HSE.
Ella Wolfe – 5’8 SG – 2022 – Tipton
Wolfe was another player who I had not seen yet but I came away impressed. She is a really tough kid and wasn’t afraid to get in the paint and mix it up. Wolfe has a pretty solid frame and was able to get her shot off with ease during the event. Wolfe is a very nice guard who has the ability to score fairly well at the rim. Wolfe is aggressive with the ball and it’ll be fun to see her grow.
