Today we highlight some of the best defenders in the 2021 class. Prospects could specialize in perimeter or post defense, we will be covering both styles of defense.
Marisa Davis-Jones 6’1 2021 F Valley Vista
MDJ may be one of the best defenders in state. She is super long and quick. Her long wingspan and quick feet make her a nightmare for any perimeter player. She is also very physical and strong, making her a very solid post defender. She can easily lock up the other team’s top scorer due to all of her intangibles.
Amanda Barcello 5’11 2021 G/F Seton Catholic
I think Barcello is a very versatile defender. She has really good size, standing at 6’1. She plays some guard, so she has mobility and some speed to match with her size. Barcello is also very strong, so that allows her to push out post players and make it difficult for them to score from the block.
Autuymn Franks 5’3 2021 G Casteel
Franks is the best pest defender I’ve seen in a while. I love those small guards who aren’t afraid to play defense or let their size hinder them. She can really apply a lot of pressure to opponents and get under their skin.
Kiya Dorroh 6’1 2021 G Sabino
Dorroh will be one of the best defenders this season. She has really stepped up her defense this summer and that should carry over into the high school season. She has a very strong frame and is very quick. Dorroh is also 6’1, has long arms, and is very intense. I think the overall size, speed, and intensity of Dorroh will intimidate a lot of players.
