Today, I saw some really good games and some blow outs. I will cover different things I saw throughout the day!
Sabino vs Pinnacle
Without a doubt, this was the best game of the day! Two of the top teams in state squaring off! Both sides have D1 talent with Ally Stedman and Kennedy Basham (Pinnacle) and Sabino’s Kiya Dorroh, Kam Rhodes, and Kam Doty.
Sabino won the game, leading the entire time.
Sabino’s Kam Rhodes is definitely my pick for player of the game. Rhodes put in work on all areas of the game. I’d be willing to bet that she got around 15-20 points and grabbed 8-10 rebounds. It was very impressive to see 5’5 Rhodes take it strong to the hole against Pinnacle’s 6’6 Center!
Kam Doty also had a very solid game as around, shooting the ball very well. Dorroh struggled offensively but did an amazing job of guarding Pinnacle’s Kennedy Basham.
For Pinnacle, Ally Stedman and Kennedy Basham led the way. Stedman struggled a bit in the first half but came in hot with the second. Basham did good work throughout the game. She had a ton of blocks and got some points off of second chances.
I also thought that Nora Kruja did a stellar job of guarding Kam Doty. Kruja is a work horse who loves to play physical.
Westwood vs Copper Canyon
Westwood plays so fast! They are a run and gun team that lives by the 3 ball! All of their players aren’t little, quick guards who can knock down 3’s in a hurry! Their offensive firepower was just too much for Cooper Canyon.
Copper Canyon had a really tough game all around. The only bright spot of the team was Dustee Murrell. Murrell saw a long night full of double and triple teams, however this did not stop her from scoring 14 points.
Sunnyslope vs Flowing Wells
I only caught a few minutes of this game but I had to talk about Leslie Aguirre. She played so well and looked like a college guard. She handles the ball well, shot it well, and played some amazing perimeter defense.
Cactus Shadows vs Westview
Cactus Shadows blew out Westview pretty easily. I was really impressed with Brooke Rodgers. Rodgers is a college level guard and played very well tonight. She has a really solid frame and is very strong.
