Nevertheless, several players have a knack for being in the right place at the right time and making things happen, which usually change the momentum of a game so here are a few from the Girls Season Opener
Jada BeasleyJada Beasley-Heights-the more I watch this talented junior, the more I’m impressed with what she brings to the table. She gets hers “in the flow” but she also does the little things that may lead to what leads to the basket. She can defend in halfcourt or fullcourt but that knack for being the right place at the right time is just one of those things that you can’t teach
Da’Nae Williams-Shadow Creek-the junior guard fits one of my sayings which I hashtag quite a bit, #sizedontmatter and the amended version is “when you can play” and she can definitely do that. Be it dropping the long ball with a hand in her face or placing a hand in someone’s face on the defensive end, she just brings it over and over. Quick hands and she does things instinctively, that’s something you can’t teach
Aysia Ward & Tymberlin CriswellAysia Ward-Lancaster-this was a pick-em because several players on the squad did much of the same thing and that was attack, play passing lane and man-up baseline to baseline, but her elevation, timing and just snagging the ball out of the air over and over gives her the nod. She also finished with contact but when you can alter and (or) block shots to start the break, which you also can run yourself……
Tymberlin Criswell-The Village-one of the states top juniors, watching her drop a fadeaway three to win a game before her first MS game sort of told me where my expectations would be and as usual, I was right. She’s long, athletic and plays the passing lane to a tee but her defensive pressure makes things happen as well. Mid to long or off the dribble, she’s hard to contain
Cyncere RobertsCyncere Roberts-Heights-at 5’7, she defies gravity and that also moved her up as one of the state’s top juniors. She can outjump players over 6’0 but her “hang time” is superseded by her acrobatics which in itself can definitely get the crowd going and they bring a crowd. She scores, mid to long, from the wing or in the paint but her defense is consistently making things happen
Next up and closing it out from Girls Season Opener, SIZE DOES MATTER when you can play
