The biggest things holding Robinson back at this point in her prep career is a developing sense of confidence and focus. But once Robinson starts to see the talent and potential that so many others around her see, and if she develops the drive to chase her immense upside, then watch out.
“It’s starting to click for her and she could end up being our best all-around player,” Mountain Vista head coach Mike Willahan said. “If she has the year I think she can have, I think we’re an Elite Eight or Final Four team. For her, it’s more of a mental struggle than a physical struggle. If she develops a more aggressive mentality, she will be very good.”
Listed on the roster at 5-foot-9, Robinson will play a small forward or power forward role for the Golden Eagles this season. She can also handle the ball and worked a lot on her perimeter shooting this offseason, which hopefully will allow her to help Mountain Vista stretch the floor a bit more down the line.
Robinson is explosive and powerful with the ball in her hands and has the ability to take defenders to the basket off the dribble and well as work effectively in the post. Sharing minutes with standout 2020’s Mackenzie Gamble (Washburn) and Amy Holland as a sophomore last season, Robinson averaged 5.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the floor.
The Golden Eagles finished with a 17-8 record and reached the Sweet 16 in Class 5A last winter. They didn’t graduate any seniors from last year’s team and expect to be even better this winter. Whatever forward steps Robinson makes as a junior will be a primary factor in determining just how good the Mountain Vista girls can be.
