This was my first look at Klein Cain and they are scrappy with several pieces to the puzzle and although they started the 3rd quarter with an 8-0 run to give them a 17 point lead, I said the Wolves could still win the game, it’s on my Instagram and when I say something, it’s not just to be saying it.
Kameryn LewisFatou Samb completing the package
Ink has dried as she signed with Cal but that upside is still there. She’s 6’4, athletic and has become more than a rebounder and shot blocker. Her hands and footwork have continued to elevate and I’m betting that she’ll be an even better college player simply because of her mindset and desire to be the best player she can be. I really liked the signs of dominating on both ends of the court for Westside
Kameryn Lewis adding offense for Wolves
I was talking with head coach Troy Gillespie raving about last seasons’ move-in and he told me she was the first player since my daughter played for him to score 30 in a game. Lewis is powerful, she attacks and finishes strong and has a nice pull-up in traffic. She doesn’t mind hitting the boards, on either end nor playing defense and this will play a big part in how well they do this season
Shanna PettyWestside role players step up
Shanna Petty and Trenece Charles joined Lewis and Samb on the All-Tournament Team, Samb was MVP, but Petty came up clutch down the stretch with big steals, baskets, and free throws, Charles played the silent assassin and just made plays when they needed them but freshman Kaitlyn Evans is growing up fast being thrown out to the Wolves, pun intended, into the starting line-up but make no bones about it, she’s making the adjustments and handling the pressure
Meagan HamiltonMove-in Meagan Hamilton makes presence felt at Klein Cain
She impressed me so much over the club season that when I saw her, I was trying to figure out from where. This is when I went online and said “oh yeah” but that wasn’t the only time I said it as she was an “and one” waiting to happen. She’s powerful yet under control and has that, “you won’t outwork me mentality” which will definitely take players a long way, Her pull up from midrange is consistent and this squad has the pieces to beat some teams they aren’t supposed to, on paper
Cain’s supporting cast step up
Abigail Feurst is 6’3 and powerful yet she also can use the finesse under the basket with reverse lay-ups and finger rolls. That strong body comes in handy and her presence is definitely felt and when you add Andrea Miquilarena, she joined Hamilton as Cain’s representatives on the All-Tournament squad, you have a heady player that makes things happen. She has a nice jumper, she sees the floor and controls the tempo but speaking of jumpers, Kayla Ngo can create in traffic or hit the stop and pop and the clutch shots throughout the game from Haley Brown, long ball included, definitely has me giving them another look
