It was a close game the entire time, with Seton Catholic up by only four points going into the half. During the third quarter, Seton Catholic jumped out to an eleven-point lead, but Pinnacle battled back to keep it with in single digits for the final quarter of the game.
Here are five takeaways from the game.
Amanda Barcello is one of the state’s top rebounders
Barcello has shown on more than one occasion that she has the ability to rebound on both sides of the ball and she has been a great asset to Seton Catholic when it comes to second-chance points.
Kennedy Basham is starting to understand how to use her height
At 6-foot-6, she’s got a size advantage that most girls don’t have. However, she’s still got a lot of raw talent and she’s figuring out how to play up to her size instead of playing down. Her shooting in the game against Seton Catholic has been much improved from the game they played in on day one against Cathedral Catholic.
They might be little, but don’t underestimate Sasha Daniel and Lee Lee Willis
Both of them showed that size doesn’t matter in the game against Pinnacle. They used it to their advantage to squeeze their way inside spaces and put the shot up. Willis even put up multiple shots with ease despite the defenders being right in her face.
Ally Steadman is key to Pinnacle’s success
The junior guard is underrated for the amount of effort she puts in on the court. She plays intense defense, but she also has the ability to hit shots from just about anywhere and a great ability to see the court.
Seton Catholic is one of Arizona’s top teams
Despite a one-point loss on day one of the tournament to Highlands Ranch of Colorado, Seton Catholic has looked dang-near unbeatable this season. The only other tough test the Sentinels faced was Shadow Mountain, the former State Champions who gave them a run for their money. Seton Catholic, a private school of about 600 students, is competing and beating public schools with a total enrollment about four times the size of them. A dream matchup for them would be against Millennium, the team that is widely believed to be the best basketball program right now in Arizona.
What’s next:
Pinnacle will play on Friday against Dillard High School of Florida at 10:30 a.m. at Tempe High School, while Seton Catholic will face Salesian College Prep of California at 3 at Corona del Sol.
