January 2, 2020 Game Previews: Thursday’s Matchups

The first slate of games directly after the Winter break will tip off with the schedule listed below: &nbsp; <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Niwot (1-5) vs D’Evelyn (5-2)</strong></span> Niwot’s <strong>Lily Sieben (2020 G)</strong>, who is averaging 6.2 points per game, and <strong>Julia Wilson (2021 F/C)</strong>, who is snagging 8.2 rebounds per game, will have their work cut out for them against D’Evelyn’s <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/lexi-szathmary/">Lexi Szathmary</a> (2021 G)</strong> and <strong>Peyton Bablin (2021 G). </strong>Lexi is putting up 12.4 points, 5.2 steals, and 4.4 rebounds per game. Peyton has recorded 6.8 points and 6.8 rebounds a game so far. &nbsp; <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Durango (4-5) vs Laguana Acoma (5-2)</strong></span> <strong>Maddy McManus (2021) </strong>and the Demons will be facing off against New Mexico’s Laguna Acoma Hawks in the Aztec Tournament. McManus is averaging 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds a game alongside <strong>Mason Rowland’s (2023 G/F)</strong> 5.6 points and 3.8 rebounds a game. Add <strong>Sydney Flores’ (2022 G/F)</strong> 5 points and 3 rebounds a game to the mix and that should make for a great competition. <strong> </strong> <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Pueblo County (4-5) vs Grand Junction Central (4-2)</strong></span> <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/leah-redding/">Leah Redding</a> (2021 G/F) </strong>is leading Grand Junction Central in scoring with 98 points on the season, averaging 16.3 points a game while shooting 75% from the free-throw line. <strong>Mya Murdock (2021 G)</strong> is putting up 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds a game, along with a 2.7 steal average. Pueblo County’s <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/erin-mauro/">Erin Mauro</a> (2020 G)</strong> has averaged 8.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game and<strong> Rose Weimer (2021 F/C)</strong> has recorded 7.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. Expect a tough matchup with this one. &nbsp; <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Thoreau (6-2) vs Montrose (8-1)</strong></span> The Montrose Indians will face off against New Mexico’s Thoreau Hawks at the Aztec Rumble in the Jungle tournament. The Indians are led by <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/kennadie-minerich/">Kennadie Minerich</a> (2020 G)</strong> who has recorded 122 points and 27 steals so far this season, bringing her average to 13.6 points and 3 steals a game. Montrose’s <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/ally-nichols/">Ally Nichols</a> (2020 C/F)</strong> is averaging 8 points and 6.7 rebounds a game while <strong>Caraline Burwell (2020 C) </strong>has an average of 7.1 rebounds per game and is shooting 80% at the free-throw line. &nbsp; <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Fruita Monument (9-1) vs Chatfield (3-4)</strong></span> <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/grace-talbot/">Grace Talbot</a> (2022 G) </strong>and the Chatfield Chargers have a tough match coming up following their hard-fought loss to Fairview. Talbot has recorded 127 points and 33 steals so far, bringing her average to 18.1 points and 4.7 steals a game. Fellow teammates <strong>Keyana Sande (2021 F/G) </strong>and <strong>Talea Kuennen (2022 G)</strong> have a combined 76 points, 46 rebounds, and 37 steals on the season. Will that be enough for the Chargers to be able to rally past the Wildcats? &nbsp; <span style="font-size: 14pt"><strong>Valor Christian (7-1) vs Chaparral (6-1)</strong></span> The final game of the post-break opener will feature #1 ranked Valor Christian. The Eagles are led in scoring and rebounds by <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/raegan-beers/">Raegan Beers</a> (2022 F/C)</strong> who has 135 total points and 80 total rebounds so far. With five double-doubles on the season, she is averaging 16.9 points and 10 rebounds a game. Valor’s <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/kindyll-wetta/">Kindyll Wetta</a> (2021 G)</strong> has recorded 120 total points, 34 steals, and 31 assists giving her a 15 point, 4.3 steals, and 3.9 assist average. Teammate <strong><a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jenna-siebert/">Jenna Siebert</a> (2021 G) </strong>is averaging 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. Expect for this to be one of the highlight matchups of the weekend.
