It was a close game going into the half, but Perry made some adjustments and came out absolutely dominant in the second half of the game. Here are three takeaways from their win against Sabino.
Madison Conner is candidate for Arizona’s POY
All season long, Conner has been ballin’ out for the Pumas, but the game against Sabino was a special one for her. In the game, she broke 1,000 career points. Going into the game she had 977, but after putting up a whopping 29 points, she finished with 1,006 points. The junior also has offers from a number of prestigious college programs and is not looking to slow down any time soon.
Perry’s defense is relentless
Perry’s defense is tough to play against. The Pumas like to play press defense, making things tough for the other team from the very moment they’re back on offense. Once the team is finally across the half court line, though, things don’t let up. Perry likes to be all up in your space, making it tough for the other team to get a good shot off. They also aren’t afraid to be aggressive and force turnovers or get the steal.
Thing are only getting started for them
Perry has only one senior this year, meaning they aren’t losing much when this year is over. For the Pumas, their core is the junior class, which is absolutely loaded with talent. Conner obviously is the player on the court who stands out the most, but they’re loaded with other players like Nicole Smith, who is one of the top shooters in the state, Tatyanna Clayburne who has a number of offers of her own, and Shayla O’Neil.
The Pumas will play against Valley Vista on Friday in Day 3 of the Nike Tournament of Champions. The game will tip off at noon at Mountain Pointe High School in the main gym.
