Hamilton is also one of the top teams in 6A, so I fully expect two amazing games. I will do previews of both games, as they fully deserve their own separate articles, as there’s more than enough to discuss.
First off, let’s look at some of the top performers from both squads, then we will look at some key match ups.
Hamilton Key Players:
Graciela Roybal (2021) leads the way for Hamilton in the scoring department, averaging 11.9 points per game.
Victoria Davis (2020) is very close behind, averaging 9.8 points per game.
Amayah Reaves (2021), Samara Curry (2021), and Zakiirah King (2020) are also chipping in some points, averaging between 6-8 points per game each.
Perry Key Players:
Madison Connor (2021) leads the way in the scoring department, averaging 20.5 points per game.
Taty Clayburne (2021) and Shayla O’Neil (2021) have also chipped in some solid scoring numbers averaging 11.4 and 8.1 points per game.
Nicole Smith (2021) and Grace Oken (2021) have also kicked in 6 points per game as well.
Team Stats/Comparison: (Hamilton/Perry)
Points Per Game: 57/60.8
FG%: 37%/43%
Rebounds Per Game: 26.5/28.9
Assists Per Game: 12.4/13.2
Steals Per Game: 15.5/10.7
Blocks Per Game: 1.5/2.3
One of the biggest questions I have going into the game is who guards Madison Connor (2021 Perry)? That is often the question most teams face when playing Perry. In this case, I wouldn’t expect the guard trio of Reaves, Roybal, or Davis to guard Connor as all three are undersized. I think the best fit to guard Connor may be Samara Curry, as she’s athletic and has a lot of length.
I think size is definitely something to look at during this game and how it impacts the flow. I think Perry has a slight size advantage, especially in the backcourt. However, I think Hamilton is just as deep as Perry and will be able to find some success. Hamilton is the 6A defending champs for a reason, so I’m sure they’ll have something special for Perry.
If I had to make a prediction, I’d give the slight edge to Perry. I predict they win by 5-10 points in this contest. This game has huge implications for region standings, AIA rankings, and Prep Hoops Power Rankings. It’s going to be fun!
