With no seniors, Coach Karen Self said before the season started that she wasn’t really sure of what to expect from this squad, but the trio of Bella DiGiovanni, Annemarie Trojanovich and Amanda Barcello have stepped it up.
As the season has continued to progress, these three have done a great job of increasing the amoung on production on the court and have really stepped up as leaders. Seton Catholic has a ton of incredibly strong sophomores, too, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that these three will be the heart and soul of the team next year.
Barcello is one of the best post players in the state or Arizona and is certainly the best there is in 4A. Coach Karen Self talked about her competitiveness on the court and how she will do everything possible each and every time to come down with the ball. Self talked about how Barcello tracks the ball in the air and does a great job of keeping her eye on it the entire time so she knows where the ball is going to fall.
Self also discussed how DiGiovanni has grown by leaps and bounds this season. She says DiGiovanni has dialed in her focus and has really stepped it up in terms of her defensive play, and she’s starting to have more confidence in her shot.
Meanwhile for Trojanovich, she may not be one of the starting five, but she is able to greatly contribute every time she steps on the court. She has an ability to shoot from anywhere on the court, and also helps swing the ball to her open teammates whenever possible.
As the playoffs start, this three-headed monster is going to be difficult to contain. Keep an eye on them as they continue to make the push to get Seton Catholic back to the state championships once again.
