Here are this week’s Top-10 teams in Class A:
Bismarck Century
The Patriots continue to dominate Class A competition, beating Jamestown by 27. The defense has been unbelievable, as Century hasn’t allowed an opponent to score more than 50 points yet this year. Freshman forward Logan Nissley has emerged as a force, going from 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the win over the Bluejays.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers have been steamrolling teams so far this year and are getting excellent play from players like Jaiden Baker, Sydney Kautz and Mac Boone in addition to their star returners. This team is stingy on the defense and efficient offensively.
Devils Lake
The Firebirds picked up a really nice win over West Fargo last week to stay undefeated on the year. Jes Mertens has been excellent to start the season and Ramsey Brown gives them a second all-league type player who can create shots and make plays.
Fargo Shanley
The Deacons got off the schnide, beating Fargo South in convincing fashion. Reile Payne is arguably the best player in the EDC and stuffs the stat sheet every night.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders have been solid early in the year but are mostly untested aside from a loss to Davies early in the year. This upcoming week will be telling, as Red River faces EDC heavyweights in Fargo Shanley and Devils Lake.
Fargo Davies
The Eagles were upset last week against Wahpeton, ending their five-game winning streak. This team still looks like one of the contenders in the EDC, but they’ve shown the ability to beat anybody and lose to anybody.
Jamestown
The Bluejays hit a bit of a holiday swoon, losing to Minot and Bismarck Century, but this team still has the talent to contend for a top-three spot in the WDA. Kameron Selvig and Grace Hegerle have been solid so far, but turnovers killed the Bluejays in their loss to the Patriots.
Bismarck
The Demons earned a rock-solid win over Bismarck St. Mary’s last week to improve to 5-2 on the season. They are getting excellent play from a lot of places again this year. Elle Hill led the way against the Saints, scoring 16 points while making 7 of 8 free throws.
Mandan
The Braves took care of Turtle Mountain Saturday, 69-54. The Braves are 4-2 and getting solid play from a number of young/inexperienced players. Things will pick up in the coming weeks as they’ll play Bismarck Legacy, Jamestown and Williston in the next two weeks.
West Fargo
The Packers had a chance to pick up a massive win last week but couldn’t hold on in a loss to Devils Lake. A positive development for the Packers has been the play of junior center Ashlyn Diemert. She’s been productive inside to start the year, joining McKenna Becher and Chloe Pfau as capable scorers.
