The Sabers stay atop the rankings after extended its winning streak to 12 games, beating Bismarck and Bismarck St. Mary’s. At this point there isn’t much to nitpick with the Sabers. Here’s one: They aren’t blowing teams out. While they are undefeated, they’ve won seven games by 15 points or less. The positive is that they are tested in close games and clearly know how to execute in hotly-contested fashion.
Bismarck Century
The Patriots picked up a nice win over Bismarck Saturday, getting 18 points from Jocelyn Julson plus 15 from Julia Fitterer and 14 from Ashton Kinnebrew. They bounced back nicely after last week’s loss to Bismarck Legacy with a win over Minot earlier in the week as well.
Devils Lake
The Firebirds went 3-0 last week, beating Valley City, Grand Forks Central in addition to a 15-point win over Fargo Davies. Balance has been the key for the Firebirds as five players average double-figures in scoring. Jes Mertens and Ramsey Brown were excellent in the win over Grand Forks Central. Jailyn Martinson and Abby Johnson carried more of the load in the win over Valley City.
Fargo Shanley
The Deacons had a week off from action. They are 8-2 on the year and still in the mix to win the EDC. They’ll need to beat Devils Lake next Monday when the two teams meet again and a little help by way of the Firebirds losing somewhere else, but Shanley is as good anybody.
Mandan
The Braves had a workmanlike week, beating Watford City and Dickinson. Sydney Gustavsson was a stat-sheet stuffer, scoring 26 points with dishing out five assists against Watford City and added 19 points and five assists in the win over Dickinson. The Braves are playing at a high level right now and in a good spot to finish in the top-four spot in the WDA.
Bismarck
The Demons didn’t leave town last week, but took a pair of losses to the two best teams in the state in Bismarck Legacy and Bismarck Century. Jilee Golus put up 21 points in the loss to the Patriots, but also had eight of the team’s 16 turnovers.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders played just once this last week and took care of business against West Fargo Sheyenne. Grand Forks Red River is sitting at 8-4 on the year and have a huge three-game stretch coming up against top teams in West Fargo, Fargo Davies and Devils Lake.
Fargo Davies
The Eagles lost handily to Devils Lake early in the week and destroyed Fargo South. The Eagles have a big one coming up this week against Grand Forks Red River and are very much in the driver’s seat for a top-four seed in the EDC.
Bismarck St. Mary’s
Bismarck St. Mary’s split a pair of games last week, beating Jamestown before losing to Bismarck Legacy over the weekend. The Saints 7-6 with losses only to teams ranked in the top-10. 3-point shooting has been brutal but Bismarck St. Mary’s is winning with solid defense and enough scoring from Abbi Kopp, Hallie Schweitzer and Elizabeth Peyerl.
Jamestown
Jamestown took another loss last week, dropping a Thursday contest to Bismarck St. Mary’s. The Bluejays are now 6-5 on the year and struggling to find some semblance of consistency. They’ve got a relatively soft stretch coming in the next couple of weeks to potentially get right before a run against the upper-echelon outfits.
