Here are this week’s top games to watch:
Four Winds/Minnewaukan at Thompson, 7:30 p.m., Monday, January 6
Undoubtedly the best matchup of the week. No. 3 Four Winds/Minnewaukan is off to a fantastic start this year and on a roll lately with wins over Grafton/St. Thomas and Carrington. The Indians have the depth, scoring ability and experience to win a state title. They’ll get another up close look at a contender as the Tommies of 6-1 with a loss to No. 2 Langdon/Edmore/Munich. Thompson is arguably the best defensive team in the state, so this game will be an interesting test of strength versus strength.
Des Lacs Burlington at Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 10
Contenders in Region 6 get together in what could be a District 12 championship preview. MLS is 6-1 with a recent loss to Rugby while DLB is on a six-game winning streak after a season-opening loss. This game will likely be a slugfest, as both teams are in the upper-echelon defensively but also capable of a clunker offensively.
Hettinger/Scranton at Trenton, 7:30 p.m., Saturday, January 11
Trenton wins by more than 50 points per game so far this year while the Night Hawks have already taken two losses. This will be an interesting test though as the Tigers will likely steamroll a lot of their regional competition and the Night Hawks represent a team of state tournament quality. Both clubs have all-staters as the Tigers are led by all-everything guard Kaity Hove while Hettinger/Scranton leans on Sam Oase and Alyssa Andress.
