Here are this week’s top-10 teams in Class B
Kindred
The Vikings stay at No.1 for another week and after a tough win over a top Grafton/St. Thomas team, it’s hard to put any other team in consideration. The reigning state champs are legit on both ends of the floor and are going to be incredibly tough for anybody to beat.
Langdon/Edmore/Munich
LEM beat Kidder County in convincing fashion in the Hoopster Classic last week. The Cardinals backed that up with a win over a very good Carrington team. They are elite on the defensive end of the floor and have the kind of length and athleticism that few teams can handle.
Four Winds/Minnewaukan
The Indians just picked up an excellent win, beating a top-five team in Carrington. Four Winds/Minnewaukan has the balance, depth, athleticism and experience to win a state title and the Indians have shown they can beat anybody.
Thompson
Aside from a loss to No. 2 LEM, the Tommies have been terrific this year. A game against No. 3 Four Winds/Minnewaukan on Monday looms but this team is the favorite in Region 2 again thanks to an elite defense and solid guards.
Rugby
The Panthers earned a terrific win last week, beating Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood by 17. The defense for Rugby has been a calling card, as the team gives up just 30 points per game.
Carrington
The Cardinals suffered two losses last week to the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in Class B, LEM and Four Winds/Minnewaukan. Carrington still looks like the favorite in Region 3, but the Cardinals will have more tough games in the coming weeks.
Kidder County
The Wolves took a loss to a very good LEM squad but are still among the favorites in Region 3 thanks to an elite defense and one of the best individual players in the state in senior Madelyn Schmidt.
Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood
MLS took a tough loss to a really good Rugby team, scoring just 27 points. The offense had been humming prior to that loss, so it’ll be interesting to see if that was a blip against another elite defensive group or a sign of things to come. The Mavericks still play terrific defense themselves.
Trenton
The Tigers are destroying teams early this year, winning by nearly 50 points per game during their 7-0 start. They’ll face Hettinger/Scranton this upcoming weekend. That could be one of the few close games the Tigers play and it’ll be interesting to see how they handle facing another team of their quality.
Grafton/St. Thomas
The Spoilers have losses to a pair of top-three teams by 10 combined points. They’ve got as good of a team as anybody with enough experience, talent, depth and athleticism to win their region and multiple games in the state tournament.
