Who doesn’t love power rankings? Here are midseason power rankings for the Player of the Year in the WDA:
Lakyn Darras, Mandan
Darras has been the catalyst for a Braves team that is exceeding expectations. The 6-foot senior is averaging 16 points and nearly 11 rebounds while converting on better than 43 percent of her shots. She makes her teammates better, she scores from all levels and she defends. She’s been terrific.
Alexis Dressler, Bismarck Legacy
Bismarck Legacy is the best team in the state and Dressler has been the leader on both ends of the floor. The senior forward is averaging 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and knocking down 46 percent of her 3-pointers. She’s terrific on the defensive end too, leading the charge for arguably the best defensive outfit in the state.
Logan Nissley, Bismarck Century
The best freshman in the state, Nissley has been awesome for a Patriots team that has state title aspirations despite missing its best player due to injury. Nissley does everything. She’s averaging 12 points, eight rebounds and more than three assists per game. She shoots it well from deep, she can finish in the paint, she makes good decisions and she’s awesome on the defensive end of the floor.
Allie Nelson, Minot
Minot has been a surprise team this season and it’s been Nelson leading the way. The 5-foot-10 senior forward is leading the WDA in scoring, averaging 18 points while adding 6.7 rebounds per game. She’s efficient because she can shoot a little bit from the perimeter and she also gets to the free throw line. The Magicians are much better than expected this year and Nelson’s the reason why.
Grace Hegerle, Jamestown
Jamestown has been up and down so far this year but if the Bluejays are going to make a run, Hegerle is going to be the one leading the way. The junior guard is averaging 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field.
