Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several 2021 forwards.
Maci Claycamp, 5’11, F, 2021, Circle
A good size power forward who is Mobile in transition and is good at collapsing on the ball and blocking shots. Claycamp can score for herself around the glass and has a good mid-range jumper and is terrific as a rebounder on both ends of the floor. Calcamp is averaging 6.3 points, 2.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 67 percent (10-15) from the free throw line.
Lanna Chase, 5’9, G/F, 2021, Circle
A long wing player who can knock down threes and get back on defense before opponents have a chance to inbound the ball. Chase brings great speed to the floor and can handle the ball and operate as a catch-and-shoot score who also can pick off passes and score transition baskets through contact. She’s averaging 8.3 points, 1.8 assists, five rebounds and two steals. She’s shooting 45 percent from the field and 67 percent from the free throw line, hitting 10-15.
Aiden Moxness, 6’3, F/C, 2021, Shawnee Mission West
A strong, physical player in the post who has good handles for her position. Moxness has great 6’3 and brings length and versatility to the floor. She makes a splash as a defender, both a shot blocker and one capable of forcing turnovers and racking up steals. She’s a mobile player and can make some plays in transition and half court settings. She is hungry around the glass on both ends and is capable of cleaning up plays and connecting form the free throw line.
Ziya Simms, F, 2021, Hutchinson
A terrific defensive-minded player who brings great speed and physicality to the floor. She’s good at forcing turnovers and can go coast-to-coast and get to the free throw line. Simms has good size and length and looks to create opportunities through her movement and all around activity on both ends of the floor. She can score and looks to make good passes and smart decisions with the ball.
Jaidyn Schomp, 6’3, F, 2021, Derby
A stretch 4 player for Derby who has elite height and the ability to score in bunches from both distance and around the glass. She can rebound well on the defensive side of the floor and looks to make extra passes and get touches off second Chance looks. She’s also a strong shot blocker who finds ways to incorporate her length into plays on both ends of the floor. Schomp is averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.7 blocks She’s shooting 48 percent from the field and an impressive 41 percent from 3-point range.
