Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several 2020 Guards.
Kadyn Cobb, 5’9, G, 2020, Salina Central
Cobb is a do everything player for Salina Central who stays active and plays a mobile game. She can force turnovers, block shots and looks to rebound as a defender and on the offensive glass. She can put back plays and score and also is comfortable making place for herself when the ball swings her direction. Cobb is averaging 7.7 points, three assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
Avery Halliday, 5’5, G, 2020, Olathe South
A strong defensive presence in full court situations and has the handles and speed to make plays in open floor. Halliday knows how to use are speed and skills to her advantage and can contribute in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor. She can handle the ball and can score for herself and can get inside and play physical and rebound and contest shots and make smart, seasoned plays.
Grace Lang, 5’4, G, 2020, Minneola
A good lead guard who can create with your dribble and keep the offense running. She’s a feisty defender who Keeps your hands up and has good footwork and mobility. Lang brings an energy to the floor that rubs off on her teammates and can score both in transition and from a distance. She comes down with rebounds and unlikely situations and keeps plays alive through her overall play. She’s averaging nine points, one assist and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Sydney Nilles, 5’8, G, 2020, Derby
An all-around gamer who knows how to impact a game on both sides of the floor. She brings a high IQ and athleticism and playmaking skills to score, forced turnovers and facilitate at a high level. She’s shooting 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. She’s also confident from the free throw line hitting 77 percent (20-26). Nilles is averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 assists, six rebounds and four steals per game. Nilles is a terrific rebounder on the defensive side of the floor and can secure the ball and push the tempo and get looks on the opposite side. Nilles has committed to play basketball at Newman University.
Tina Robertson, 5’7, G, 2020, Hutchinson
Another physical two-way player for Hutchinson who looks to force turnovers, block shots and score in transition. She’s capable of playing the wing spot and can move inside and score or defend on both the perimeter and the high and low post area. She can hit deep 3-pointers and shoots a high percentage from a distance. She has strong mechanics and can force opposing teams to rethink their game plan if running his own and Robertson starts hitting her shot.
