However, there’s a number of others who are lurking quietly in the shadows that absolutely cannot be overlooked. Whichever the case may be, here’s a number of games to keep an eye on that are taking place this week.
Tuesday, January 14th
Desert Mountain @ Cactus Shadows
This game will be exciting to watch as the two battle it out for control of the the 5A Northeast Valley Region. Both teams are undefeated in region play so far.
Casteel @ Gilbert
Two of PGH’s top 5A teams will face off on Tuesday in Region play. Both enter the game at 1-0 in region play.
Thursday, January 16th
Chandler @ Dobson
It’s not a Regional game, but it will still be an important and exciting game. Chandler will be a good out of conference test for Dobson, who is currently among the favorites to win the 6A East Valley region.
Valley Vista @ Hamilton
Another non-region game, but one that will certainly be exciting to watch. Both Hamilton and Valley Vista have gotten off to strong starts this season and are in contention to make it to the 6A state championship game.
Friday, January 17th
O’Connor @ Chaparral
O’Connor suffered a tough loss to Pinnacle earlier this year, handing them only their second loss of the season. Chaparral senior Anna Ostile suffered what appeared to be a season-ending knee injury in the Nike Tournament of Champions, so this game will be a good gauge to see how Chaparral has been able to adjust.
Thunderbird @ Shadow Mountain
Like Chaparral, Shadow Mountain also lost one of their top players in the Nike Tournament of Champions to a knee injury. Thunderbird will be the first really tough opponent Shadow Mountain will face since then, so it will be a chance to see how they’ve been able to adjust without Dyamond Butler-Worley.
