For Johnson, she didn’t even realize that she had hit a career milestone until after she had already made the shot.
“When I saw it go into the hoop it felt like a normal shot until I saw the crowd go crazy and my teammates come grab me,” Johnson said.
Johnson is Casteel’s leading scorer so far this year, averaging 16.2 points per game. She also is averaging six rebounds per game, 2.3 assists and 3.5 steals.
Casteel is currently ranked seventh in 5A and is in a solid position for the post-season, which will give Johnson an opportunity to continue racking up the points. With at least a few more games remaining this season, as well as her entire senior year still ahead of her, Johnson is working to reach the next milestone of 1500-career points. She said that achieving this is the next goal she has her sights set on.
Johnson also talked about how special it was to be able to join the 1000-point club .
“It’s great to say that I’ve been able to reach this milestone, only 8 or 9 juniors in arizona have gotten it, so for me to be one of them is a great feeling,” Johnson said.
Casteel will finish out the regular season with games against Williams Field, Maricopa and Campo Verde before the playoffs get underway.
