Here are the games to watch this week:
Carrington at Thompson, 7:30 p.m., Monday, February 10
A battle of ranked teams and contenders in Region 2 and Region 3, Carrington and Thompson both have legitimate state tournament aspirations. This could be a game we see again in a few weeks if both teams are able to get through ultra-competitive region tournaments. Kiera Eli has really come into her own as a terrific wing for the Cardinals while Thompson has an elite defense plus an all-state guard in McKenzie Hughes.
Bismarck at Bismarck St. Mary’s, 6 p.m., Thursday, February 13
The 3-7 spots in the WDA are still in flux with the third and fourth spots still being very much in play. Bismarck is sitting at 11-5 in the league while Bismarck St. Mary’s is at 9-6 and both teams are still very much in the mix for top-four finishes. This game won’t likely be pretty when it comes to offense, as both of these teams excel at grinding out games and frustrating the opposition on the defensive end of the floor.
West Fargo at West Fargo Sheyenne, 7:30 p.m, Thursday, February 13
The West Fargo schools are currently sitting in the fifth and sixth spots in the EDC standings right now, with outside shots at moving up into that top-four. A win in this spot gets one team closer to catching Grand Forks Red River while a loss relegates the loser probably to the No. 6 finish in the league. West Fargo won the first matchup by 22 but the Mustangs have clearly evolved as the season’s gone along.
Bismarck Legacy at Bismarck Century, 6 p.m., Friday, February 14
This might be the game of the year to this point in Class A girls basketball. Bismarck Legacy beat Bismarck Century 58-47 in late January, holding the Patriots to 32 percent shooting and just three made 3-pointers. Can the Sabers play that kind of defense again? On the road, that’ll be a tougher task. Logan Nissley and Chloe Markovic had arguably their worst games of the year in that loss while the Sabers got solid performances throughout the lineup.
