Back to back conference champions are the South Milwaukee Rockets. They have led the Woodland East the entire season and have gone 11-1 in conference play. The team is 18-3 on the season and averages nearly 60 points per game. With a young team that continues to develop, South Milwaukee will be the team to beat for a couple more years to come. Before they start their playoff action on Tuesday February 18th lets breakdown standout players.
Hailey Johnson | 5’10 F | Sophomore
Leading her team this season is Johnson. A strong post player who runs the floor well and can play so many minutes for her team. She has developed into an incredible player this season who does it all for the Rockets. She has inside- out play and has been knocking down multiple jumpers per game. She is averaging 12 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Johnson scored her season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds in a huge win over Shorewood.
Kayla Tierney | 5’6 G | Senior
An experienced play- making guard who has so much intensity on the floor. She knows where her spots are, and is also fantastic at finding her other teammates in the right spots. She averages nearly 5 assists per game. During her senior campaign we watched her transform into one of the toughest defenders in the conference. She moves quickly and has incredible footwork. Tierney is only 5’6 but plays much taller as she is seen getting multiple rebounds per game. Tierney is a spot up shooter and is able to knock down multiple shots beyond the arc. She is averaging 10.9 points per game for her team and 5 rebounds per game. In a close win against conference rival Greenfield, Tierney had 24 points and hit 6 three point shots. Tierney is committed to play at Division II Northern Michigan.
Mia Johnson | 5’5 G | Sophomore
Mia is a quick guard who went from a play-maker to a scorer this season. She has really stepped up to help her team offensively. Johnson has a first step passed her defenders that finds her with an easy layup at the rim. This season she has worked on her 3 point percentage and has knocked down many clutch shots. Johnson scored her season-high in a win over conference opponent Milwaukee Lutheran. In her most recent games leading into playoff action Mia Johnson has been putting the team on her back. She has averaged 17 points in her last four games with the Rockets.
Isabella Campos | 5’3 G | Junior
A key role player for South Milwaukee this season. Campos is everything a coach looks for in a player. She does all the little things right both offensively and defensively. She is super patient offensively and plays with a lot of poise. Campos moves well without the ball. Watching her this season, her passing into the post players really stood out. She finds her forwards really well that leads to many points for her team. She is averaging 7.1 points per game. In a recent win over Saint Thomas More, Campos scored a season-high 25 points on 10-12 shooting. She was also 60% from the three- point line.
Cailtin Behling | 5’9 | Sophomore
Another key role player who is playing well for South Milwaukee. A young player who is sure to develop into one of the top players on her team. Behling is averaging 5.8 points per game in her sophomore season. She could easily take over a game if taken lightly. She scored 17 points in a nice win over Milwaukee Lutheran. Behling also had a crafty double double, she scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds in a win over Cudahy.
