In-game two of quarterfinal play, we watched an upset as 5 seed Holy Family Catholic had a heck of a second half to pull away from the Blake Bears, the 4 seed in Section 5AA. These are the players that stood out from both teams in yesterday’s second quarterfinal game.
Morgan Ramsey, Forward, Blake School (2021)
The scorers always get the love, but sometimes it’s hard to not watch who’s collecting the boards for every team I’ve watched of the 80+ different teams I’ve watched this year. Morgan Ramsey of the Bears had a double-digit rebounding game that was fun to watch yesterday against Holy Family Catholic.
Nicole Bowlin Nicole Bowlin 5'6" | PG Holy Family | 2022 State MN , Guard, Holy Family Catholic ( #28, 2022)
Where Bowlin was key was from beyond the three-point line where she knocked down a couple of nice shots to add to the Fire’s mix of double-digit scorers in the upset over 4 seed Blake. She also had a drive to the bucket that’s another asset to her game. She’ll be needed against the strong guard play Providence Academy has this Wednesday night.
Addison Mack, Guard, Blake School (2025)
Mack is such a raw talent that’s producing well already as a 7th grader, but where her efficiency was yesterday was in the team game. Mack had the highest scoring in my team points category (assists, steals, blocks) better than anyone on the court. She also had some quality drives to the bucket in which she was successful. I look forward to watching Mack on the AAU circuit this summer, as she’s going to be a star over the coming years in Minnesota girl’s hoops.
Abbey Fink, Guard, Holy Family Catholic (2020)
The senior captain from the Fire caught my attention with her sweeping ability to get to the basket. She also had a couple of pivotal steals on the Bears that helped get the Fire a big jump in the second half in a game that was a 34-30 game at the half.
Sophia Zay, Guard, Holy Family Catholic (2024)
The Fire also had a young middle schooler blossoming at the opportunity in 5’7 guard Sophia Zay. Zay showed off her capacity of rebounding the basketball yesterday against Blake. She was in the vicinity of the basket quite frequently yesterday, and it should place her as a 2024 prospect to watch from the Holy Family Catholic program out of Victoria, Minnesota.
Cate Moe Cate Moe 5'11" | SF Blake | 2021 State MN , Guard, Blake School (#82, 2021)
If I’m looking at a player that I want on the stripe making me key free throws in a game, I’m watching the game Cate Moe Cate Moe 5'11" | SF Blake | 2021 State MN put on yesterday. 12 of her 26 points came from the free-throw line yesterday for the Bears. Moe also showed that stroke from out past the stripe could be a dangerous thing to watch for in the 2020-2021 season as this junior showed us a glint of her talent yesterday at STMA.
Game MVP
Sophi Hall Sophi Hall 6'1" | CG Holy Family | 2023 State MN , Guard, Holy Family Catholic (#19, 2023)
Hall took the Holy Family’s team name to heart, as she lit a fire in the score sheet in the second half. Her countless three-pointers were a strong suit in her game where she used it the most in the second half. Her 25 points made this 2023 guard prospect one watch in their next section game and this summer on the AAU circuit for Minnesota Fury 2023 UAA.
