Here are some of the top players to watch
Alexis Dressler, Bismarck Legacy
Dressler’s been the best player on the best team in the state and is an elite two-way player. Her numbers weren’t eye-popping in the WDA Tournament, but her impact on the game is certainly felt in a big way. She averaged 10 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while supplying top-notch defense.
Logan Nissley, Bismarck Century
The best freshman in the state, Nissley’s had a terrific season and the reason the Patriots are still considered a state title contender. She raised her game in the WDA Tournament too, averaging 16.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, helping the Patriots reach the title game. She does just about everything well. Just a freshman. Watch out.
Lakyn Darras, Mandan
Darras was terrific in the WDA Tournament, averaging 20.7 points and 9.7 rebounds, carrying the Braves in wins over Bismarck St. Mary’s and Minot to secure a spot in the state tournament. Darras is in the mix for the Player-of-the-Year in the league, as she’s consistently produced double-double type production despite being at the top of every team’s scouting report.
Maria Mann, Bismarck St. Mary’s
Mann has been a rebounding machine during her varsity career and will get to go against one of the best frontcourts in the state in Fargo Davies this week. She averaged 10.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in the WDA Tournament and does a great job finishing around the rim and controlling the paint on both ends of the floor.
Arianna Berryhill, Bismarck Legacy
Berryhill was terrific in the WDA Tournament, leading the Sabers to the tournament title, averaging 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Her efficiency has been inconsistent throughout the year, but she’s excellent when it comes to creating her own shot. She can shoot from the perimeter, she gets to the free throw line and she’s very good defensively.
Julia Fitterer, Bismarck Century
Fitterer has emerged as a really solid all-around player and been a catalyst on both ends of the floor for Bismarck Century all season. She’s been excellent particularly over the second half of the year and was very good in the Patriots run to the WDA Championship game, averaging 14 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Sydney Gustavsson, Mandan
Gustavsson has been a consistent second-fiddle for the Braves all year and she was solid in the WDA Tournament, averaging 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists. She’s a solid shot-creator, a capable long-range shooter and does so many things well that she’s an impact on the game even when she’s not scoring.
Elizabeth Peyerl, Bismarck St. Mary’s
On a teamt has four seniors all averaging 10-12 points per game, Peyerl represents perhaps the best chance of an individual taking over a game offensively. The senior guard averaged 15.3 points per game in the WDA Tournament, scoring 23 in the win over Williston. She can shoot from deep, she gets to the free throw line and she’s a solid facilitator. In games that will likely be close to the wire, Peyerl is a type of player that can put the Saints over the top.
