Continue ReadingI didn’t have a chance to see every player I have listed this past high school season however let me emphasize one thing “I’m not a novice evaluator” and when I call a kid a #D1Lock in MS or before, it happens, not like magic but because I know where the bar was set years ago. Ese Ogbevire (Fulshear) impressed me during the playoffs, tremendous upside coupled with that explosive first step are some of the reasons she’ll be added to the 2023 Watch List as well as the performance from Jamie Ruede (Boerne) put on at the She’s Ballin Showcase, after two minutes I knew what I was looking at. I missed Zeryhia Lee-Aokuso (Amarillo) but I locked her in at Prime Time Nationals a couple of years ago when I used to cover it, I guess I need to spell her name correctly but I got her game right. Another talented player I #Locked in elementary school, Gisella Maul Gisella Maul 5'10" | SG Cedar Park | 2023 State TX (Cedar Park) started the season as one of the first players off the bench and ended it starting and almost helped lead her squad to the state tournament with an array of baskets from, well everywhere
Dalanna Carter Dalanna Carter 5'6" | PG Barbers Hill | 2023 State #30 Nation TX (Barbers Hill) started her high school career off with a bang and after being named to several All-Tournament squads during the season and singlehandedly keeping her team in a preseason game with TAPPS State Champion The Village, she has sent messages that I said she would as fourth-grader
Amarachi Kimpson Amarachi Kimpson 5'7" | PG Little Elm | 2023 State TX (Little Elm) another elementary school player I #Locked years ago and the highlights she has shown continuously over her young career were on full display her freshmen season. I walked in a tournament, the game had already started and she dropped three in a row from NBA range
Crislyn Rose Crislyn Rose 5'5" | PG Sasche | 2023 State TX (Sasche) was a pleasant surprise a few years ago, one of those players I asked who they were because there was no roster and she continued to show me why I asked for it at last years Summer Elite Championship but at the Sandra Meadows Classic, she put on a show attacking and dropping the long ball
Brandy Jones Brandy Jones 5'9" | CG North Crowley | 2023 State TX (North Crowley) also sent me messages early before her high school career started and during the Texas Invitational, her poise and court savviness was that of a seasoned veteran as she ran the one and showed she could take things over at the blink of an eye, but don’t blink because you may miss something
Loghan Johnson Loghan Johnson 5'8" | CG Tompkins | 2023 State TX (Tompkins) one of the areas top squads had a lot to do with how quickly she adjusted to the high school level yet again when I say #Locked, that’s to be expected. She put on a show during the playoff game I caught, her attacking from the wing, hanging in the air and that pull-up jumper has the arena rocking
Ja’Shelle Johnson Ja’Shelle Johnson 5'5" | PG SA Johnson | 2023 State TX (San Antonio Johnson) when your intensity level is high, you can handle the ball under pressure and under control, those are very qualities but she thinks the game and takes advantage of every opportunity given to her and whether driving, shooting or assisting, she can definitely change the game
Tristen Taylor Tristen Taylor 5'4" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX (Duncanville) had forgotten I had written about her years ago, that’s why rosters and ability to use the search bar are important but what’s even more important is how she searched the floor to hit the open man or create off the dribble to hit her shots and this played a big part in her team winning a state championship
